Cold agglutinins are antibodies that bind to red cells at temperatures below 37C. Therefore, the resulting hemolysis occurs in cold exposed areas and is usually mild. This phenomenon is associated with Mycoplasma pneumonia and infectious mononucleosis infections in the host.
